CPR and AED Training: The Life You Save Could Be A Loved One
Share
On August 23, 2024, my heart stopped.
No warning. No pain. No chance to call for help. I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, and in that moment, I was minutes from death.
But angels were already in motion. Friends nearby who had the training and courage to step in and perform CPR. Their quick action kept me alive until first responders arrived with an AED. Their preparation became my second chance.
This isn’t just my story. This could be anyone’s story:
Your spouse. Your child. Your coworker. Even you.
💓 Why CPR and AED Training Matters
Every year in the U.S., more than 350,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
The survival rate? Less than 10%. But when CPR is started immediately and an AED is used quickly, survival rates double or even triple.
Learning CPR and how to use an AED isn’t just helpful.
It’s a life-saving responsibility.
🫀 CPR Basics: What to Do in an Emergency
You don’t need a medical degree. You need three things:
1. Recognize the emergency.
If someone collapses and isn’t responsive or breathing normally, assume cardiac arrest.
2. Call 911.
Put your phone on speaker and alert emergency responders.
3. Start Hands-Only CPR.
- Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
- Use a rhythm of 100 to 120 beats per minute (try the beat of “Stayin’ Alive”).
- Don’t stop until help arrives or an AED is ready.
⚡AEDs: Easy to Use. Powerful to Know.
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are designed to be used by anyone.
Just open the case, turn it on, and follow the voice prompts.
AEDs won’t shock someone unless it’s needed.
They’re safe. They’re fast. And they save lives.
Every minute without defibrillation reduces survival by 7 to 10%.
If an AED is nearby, you could be the difference between life and death.
🙌 From My Story to Yours: Don’t Wait
In my book, Dying to Be the World’s Best, I share what it felt like to wake up alive.
The gratitude. The awe. The realization that my friends’ CPR training gave me life.
They didn’t freeze. They acted. Because of that, I’m here to tell this story.
You don’t have to be perfect.
You just have to be prepared.
